Besides a 6 line, or canary wrasse?

You could do a flasher wrasse. I'm really wanting to add a Blue Flasher wrasse to my tank to give it that nice pop of red.

I'm assuming I'd need to keep and maie and female to get this appearance?

If you do go with a wrasse, be sure you cover the top with eggcrate or something similar and they'll need a couple of inches of sand to sleep in.

I have 4" of sand and have some egg crate over the top already.

Was thinking of building a mesh screen w/bird netting.

So does anyone know if I'd be able to keep 1 male and 1 female? Basically in hopes that the male displays nicely :D

Are all wrasses considered jumpers? Im thinking about getting a canary wrasse.

I read if you don't want a sand bed in your tank, you could put a container full of sand behind your liverock.

all wrasses are potential jumpers. These are reef safe :)

That could work, though I imagine the fish would scatter it around quite a bit.

i just put a 12 line in my 29bc. Im concerned with keeping the front lid open for heat release. May just have to open the back lid from now on.

I had a 6 line that I loved to death jump in my 75 gal.

Get a tall container and only use about two inches of sand.

What about a Filamented Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus filamentosus)?

a McCoskers?
For sure! I am not a general fan of wrasses for some weird reason but recently upgraded to a 110g starphire tank and added as my first fish this awesome McCoskers!! He has a GREAT personality and will nearly eat from my hand...

And a vid of him flashing... its really VERY cool to watch!

They sure don't look that colorful. Another one that I like is a mystery wrasse, which is similar, but more colorful. Don't think the mystery could go into the 29g

What else is in the tank - fish wise?

I would applaud the switch to fine mesh - because I hear too many "jumpers" make it through the egg crate. Plus a fine mesh sure looks 100x better than egg crate. :)

I am also pondering adding flame angel or a c. acanthops (flameback) angel at some point. Probably after awhile.

Flame's are such beautiful fish. They are hit-n-miss - if they will pick at your corals. I have always heard a well feed flame won't pick at corals. They do that because they're hungry.

I would get the smallest one you can, and kind of raise it on your own, instead of buying a bigger one - which may already want to munch on your corals.

If getting a wrasse - get something not orange/red - as a flame takes on those colors. Maybe a group of blue/green chromis instead, to add a nice splash of color.

I would prefer - personally a group of green chromis and a flame - but that's up to you. :)

Maybe I'll stick w/a canary wrasse and then a flame angel??

will be awhile before I add though.

It's good to get thinking - planning is important. I would add the flame last is you are really going to get one.

From LA :

"If the Flame Angelfish is to be added to a peaceful community, it should be the last fish introduced.".

What was the decision?

I have a 34, and want to do a male/female pair. I love the McCoskers, but there does not seem to be any females for sale, by anyone (even wholesalers).

I had flashers (McCosker's) in a 38 & felt bad for the male when he was flashing. He took up a LOT of swimming room, and my 38 just didn't seem to be enough for him. Just something to consider. They may stay small, but they swim a LOT.

My 34 is a Solana, which is 20"x20"

I am aware that 34 is on the small side for a McCoskers, but I really want one :)

Well, you have to weigh the health of the animal against your wants LOL. I want a horse, but I can't keep one in my living room! A longer tank is better, since they're back-and-forth swimmers (like a tang). Also, hope you have a cover, cuz they do hit the top of the water. Mine never jumped, but most do. I have a couple vids of mine flashing, and he used up the entire length of the tank...just getting going when he'd have to slam on the brakes & turn around. He skimmed the surface a lot, as well.

How about a Twin Spot Hogfish (Bodianus bimaculatus)? Beautiful coloring, reef safe, and acts like a wrasse. I love mine.

I ended up with a H. Melanurus wrasse. Did great on my flat worms. Constantly picked at the rocks. Didn't have any trouble with a new addition after her. Love her! I tore down my tank last spring/early summer when we put our old house up for sale. Sold all livestock to lrc member. Currently trying to figure out a 75g that will go up this spring. It will also have a 75g sump that will have 1/3 of it as a Fuge.

This tank will have:

1 female Macropharyngodon bipartitus
1 female Macropharyngodon meleagris
1 Trio of McCoskers flasher wrasses 1m 2f - Paracheilinus mccoskeri
Pair of red firefish - Nemateleotris magnicifica

I may throw in a shrimp goby with a candy cane pistol shrimp(red and white striped with yellow antenae). possible shrimp gobies:
Stonogobiops yasha - Yasha Haze goby.
Stonogobiops nematodes - yellow rose goby
Vanderhorstia flavilineata-Yellow Lined Shrimp Goby (saw this on Diver's Den, but doesn't seem to be common?)

Also a possibility is a jawfish.

Opistognathus rosenblatti)- Blue Spotted Jawfish or
Ospistognathus sp Goldspecs jawfish, or
Opistognathus aurifrons - yellow head jawfish
