Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but what is a good cost estimate of a 650 gallon full reef tank (including equipment)? I am already getting a quote on the tank itself, but that's all I have at the moment.

I personally have always estimated about $50 per gallon as a rough estimate. I know some will say you can get by with less/some more but alot depends of the level of equipment ect you use. High end vs low/med end. Never the less a full blown reef of this size will cost you some coin!
if you do your homework and buy alot of it used you can go alot cheaper. my 560/g cost about 10k to set up with out corals and fish. same tank all new would prob have been 25k including the building out the room which I did myself. today on craigslist you can get the something close to what you want for 5k including everything which is what i would do. you can get tanks today for 25-50% of the original costs.

I think the running cost catch a few people off guard, power, water, salt calac etc you can do the sums yourself once you get a better idea of the setup your going to use. Remember good equipment/well setup equipment, can keep your corals doing better so will in the end be a worthwhile investment.

If money's not an issue, then congratulations-you're one of the 1% of saltwater fish hobbyists for which that is the case.
