Hey guys,

I just bought a bunch of RO accessories and cartridges from you.

One of the things I have a question about is I bought a refillable DI cartridge and a new clear RO canister.

I replaced my old membrane, pre-filter and carbon filters. Ran the unit to ensure all of the intital carbon sediment got flushed.

Then I filled up the DI resin in the new cartridge and added it inline.

After about 20-25 gallons of water through it, the resin has already changed colour halfway up the cartridge... Is this normal? I've always expected DI resin to last much longer than this.

I measured the TDS directly after the membrane and it's between 4-6.

My DI Resin changed color fast is there anything I can do ?

Quick depletion of DI resin is always one of three things.

1) The resin was not packed in the cartridge tight enough . It should be packaged in there very hard so that when you squeeze the canister there is almost no flex. There is a video of how to pack resin here . You can easily Identify of this is your problem by inspecting your resin cartridge. If there is open water on the bottom the resin has most likely hard room to separate and this is your cause.

2) Something is hurting your membranes performance and the TDS coming out is abnormally high. This is typically due to low water pressures , old membranes or poor quality membranes with inherently low rejection rates.

3) Your water source has a large amount of carbon dioxide in it which depletes the resin quickly. You can use this calculator to find out how much carbon dioxide is in your water (test the water coming out of the tap). If this is your problem you have two options . First is to send RO water into a drum and throw a power head in it to mix the water for a day or two to gas off the excess Co2 . Then pump the water through the DI resin. Most people find that is a big pain in the butt and just buy larger bags of resin so it is cheaper.
