moving a sand bed ?'s

so i read that you would not want to move your sand from an old tank to a new one.
i have a 150 gal and set up a new 240 gal. tank and was going to move my old sand bed over why would i not want to do this just wondering any info would be great.

i need to do it too i did it from a 29g to a 46g without a problem so i dont know

Moving a sand ben that has been in a tank for awhile can lead to alot of unwanted gases to escape. This in turn can destroy a tank and cause a crash.

The best way to move any sand bed is to do it very slowly and take only a few layers off the top. The best way is to get new base sand, and place your old sand on top of it. This will seed the new sand without the worry of causing a crash.
