I'm not sure if there is a best salt per se. I am a fan of Tropic Marin Pro Reef. I also like Reef Crystals but the Alk is a bit too high for my tastes. In the past I've used Instant Ocean and Coralife.

Pick your target params... pick your budget... then pick a salt.

I currently use a 50/50 blend of Instant Ocean and Coralife. In the past I have used Instant Ocean, Reef Crystals, Coralife, Tropic Marin Pro Reef, and plan on giving Red Sea Coral Pro a shot next since I'm currently aiming for a lower alkalinity.

Never noticed any effect (positive or negative) flip flopping around. Just a little more or less work to boost levels to match my target params depending on the salt.

Tropic Marin is the most expensive that I know of! Seems its hitting the high end of the poll. Well lately I been testing my TM mix at 1.026 and finding that my Mag is at 850. IMO seriously low, requiring me to dose Mag at every water change with a follow on water test. If this continues I will quit TM and move to another salt that does not kill the wallet. Anyone else having this same problem?

I like blending Oceanic in with IO or regular Red Sea.

I was using seachem, and IO mixed but recently "2months" switched to red sea pro and have much more stable results. I will say I've only used for 2months and I test both DT & the new SW before changing, but am happy so far. I was having mag issues and dosing like crazy, but since the switch all has leveled out.

I pay about 65 dollars for TM pro(200g bucket) ,30 for IO, 35 for RC. I use all 3 and like them all.

I like to use Instant Ocean.I like it because of the cal that it puts in the water. Some people say it dosent put out much but every time I tested I would give me 460.

Yep. I've used many on the list, and, while people will quibble about the lab values from each, I haven't found a significant difference between any of them in the results in the tank itself, which is what really matters to me.

Reef Crystals for 3yrs. no problems. everything grows and looks good. i think all the salt is almost the same. i think the frequent water change are key. water changes keep the trace levels where they need to be.

IO.

No point in the RC if your still going to have to supplement.

Brightwell Salt here, the best stuff I have used to date. All params are dead on for UNLS systems. Mixes at NSW values, but the nicest thing is that 1/2 cup mixes to 1 gallon of RO/DI at 1.025SG. Good savings over time, no buffer required, no extra salt to mix to reef conditions.
