I'm torn between getting a 2 float (main, backup) auto-top off or a water leak detector for my AC3. It only has 2 I/O inputs so it seems I have to choose between the two(top-off, leak) if I want my top-off with a fail-safe backup. Or is there a way around this?

Shortly after posting I just tought of this. I could put the fail-safe top-off float and the leak detector on the same input so if either trips then the appropriate actions can be taken. Think that will work?

One more question. Will the Madisson floats sold by autotopoff.com work? What about for a leak detector, what is recommended?

I bought float swiches from autotopoff.com for use with my Apex. I don't know much about the AC3 but I think a switch is a switch so if it can be used for auto top off at all it should work with the AC3.
With regards to having to choose a between auto top-off or leak detector. I think you could wire the top-off floats in series so you would need only one input. Have the top switch "normally closed" and the bottom switch open when the water is at the right level. If the water drops it will close the bottom switch and have the controller turn on the top-off pump. As the water rises and for some reason the bottom switch does not open it will rise to the top switch and open it and turn off the pump.

Excellent. That may be the ticket.
