I have 3 little colonies of zoas and I put them all on the same rock and my orange ones at the top open fine but the green and blue ones that are touching are all closed up. The orange and green ones were fine before I put the blue ones on the same rock. Did I do something wrong? Do they sting each other or something? I was told they would be fine on the same rock. Any ideas?
Thanks
Ashley

The closed ones being closed have nothing to do with thier touching. There is something else causing them to stay closed. If they have been transplanted with the last couple weeks then I would not worry, though I would make sure that all tank parameters are in order and there are no worms in the rock that might be coming out at night time and irritating them (or nudis, snails, other irritants).
You might also look into lighting. If the ones transplanted are now closer to your lighting system then that in itself could be causing them to stay closed if they are not used to higher lighting, if that is the case. There are so many variables that could be keeping them closed, but touching each other will not be one of them.

I've had patches of mine stay closed for a while. Usually at night I inspect with a flashlight, and even if I don't find anything I take a turkey baster and spray them down with a couple good spurts. It tends to work well. I think something sand and stuff just gets all mixed up in there.
