I have a 46 gallon bow with 2 false percs, an eibli angel and a diamond goby. The female clown has been in my tank for four years, the male two years. I added an eibli about a year ago. They got along perfectly until the last few weeks. My clowns have started showing ragged fins, missing scales, etc. My eibli is now showing the same signs. I know it's not from water quality, because I've seen them fighting. They tend to sleep in the same spots at night, now. Any suggestions? Are my clowns starting to breed?

When clowns become sexually mature as a precursor to breeding they aggressively defend about 25 gallons of a tank.

I had a flame angel and clarkii clown fight before - it eventually led to the clownfishes death from a secondary infection....... when neither party will back down, its generally best to seperate them.

My rockwork is kinda open. Do you think if I create more hiding spaces for the angel this would work out? They're pretty much fighting about one little area of my tank.

LOL, well it depends on who thinks they own that space. The clowns will NOT give it up.

No, clowns DON'T BACK DOWN. And they don't give up, its at times like these they show their true damsel colors. Unfortunately.
Someone will have to leave..

In short, no....... when my angel & clown were fighting it was in an understocked 180 with about 150lbs of LR.......

I've one suggestion that may or may not work out but worth a try if you can't decide which fish to remove. Add some more rocks in there and move the rockworks around and see. If it doesn't work then you don't really have a choice but to remove one. Good luck!

Thanks-I will try that. Hopefully that will work.

Put a divider in the tank & let them establish themselves in two seperate areas. Leave it seperated for a month at least.

PS. I also own a Jack Russell, but he is a sweetheart, at least for this breed of terrier!

My JRT was abused by a man, so he's not very trusting with men and a three year old picked him up by his head when he was a puppy-so no small children, either. He is fiercely protective over me, though.

What could I use as a divider for a bowfront?
