I just bought a 75 gallon reef ready tank and am trying to plug the bulk heads.... I have a threaded male adapted but the seal isn't firm enough... if i put a little water in, it'll drip out... Does the overflow box ever fail? I'm trying to figure out every way to stop this dripping... Should i silicon the piece to the bottom of the tank
?
I do not want to have anywater in my over flow... would it be save to fill the tank below the overflow box? Does the overflow box ever fail?
Thanks!

Use pipe tape. Wraps some around the threads and then screw the pipe in place. That will take care of the leak.
Wait, why don't you want to use the overflow? If its there why not use it? If you're not going to use it then you might be able to remove it. It's only fixed with silicone glue right?

The over flow isnt the isue I dont think, its the bulkhead. Is the rubber seal in good shape? Why not just get a new bulkhead. sounds almost like its too tight and the seal is blowing out the side of the bulkhead they only need snug and then 1/4 turn
Or do you mean the threads on the bulhead wont thread all the way to the glass.
Dont use silicone to fix this, that will only create a future problem.

I say use the overflow. We pay good $ for reef ready tanks. But I think badwrasse said it right, you probably have it overtightened, bulkheads can be a huge PITA! A couple weekends ago I spent an entire saturday afternoon trying to get one on because the threads got all jammed with sand, and then when getting it on became hopeless I had to spend another half hour literally cutting it off with a hacksaw.

+1 you could use the over flow to keep your tank running while you fix the overflow or until you have time to fix it but my guess is its not that big a deal that you need to bypass it all together
