I rescued a tiny 3 polyp acan from the scrap pile at the LFS about a year ago.

It grew and survived a couple alk spikes, etc. Probably has about 10 heads now, but still very small. I thought it was just starting to take off and now in the last couple days all the polyps look limp ...
This is not the tight flesh/ expel waste look, but actually limp flesh polyps. I up'd my lighting recently, but this thing never gets the full on blast. I have 4 other Acans that look fine including a rainbow that's come back from the dead 3x time. (Poor placements)

Growth cycle, death cycle or no worries on this little guy?
I'm not sure how these look when they die off, but I don't seem to have any tissue loss ... yet.

If you're not seeing recession and exposed skeleton I wouldn't panic yet. I had one 'can do some crazy "that's just doesn't look right" polyp expansion / deflation stuff for about a week and then come around. It's probably battling some kind of internal issue and could go either way.

You mentioned a change in lighting but not your water parameters or any recent changes to its position.
