After attending the BBQ this afternoon I thought I would show a couple of pictures from my relatively new reef tank. It was setup in Mid-May 2009. I'm still counting weeks instead of months or years.

The the orange monti was maybe the size of a 50Cent piece. The green is interesting because it is building little castles reaching up to the light. Should be very interesting a couple months.

Here a couple of photos.

Wow, that is a ton of growth in such a short time period!

beautiful.

I really like the pictures. Hopefully I can make it over to see your set-up soon. Im still SHOCKED at how much chaeto you harvest in a months time! amazing.

Seth,
Thanks again for a great time. I'll get you over to the house soon. Nitrates have been near zero for several weeks now. Once the chaeto starts growing like a weed I keep tearing it in half and saving the extra in a spare 10gal QT. Good way to improve water quality.

Hows that sohal been? I've heard they are super aggressive. I've always wanted one but have been nervous about bullying.

The sohal was the last fish in the tank so for the first few days it looked around and did not bother anyone. The Yellow tang held its ground even though the sohal as twice its length. The sohal has been in the tank for four weeks and so far there are few nipped fins but no major injuries. No one is being bullied.

I had heard the stories of the sohal being the worst fish in the tang family, it has not lived up to its reputation....yet. I've worked out an arrangement with the LFS that I can return it if things turn nasty. It is approx. 6" long now, I hope to be able to keep it for at least a year. One trick that seems to work is wrapping nori around a piece of 1" pvc pipe using rubber bands. The pipe is 4 feet long and sticks out of the aquarium. I only use it to feed the tangs nori during the day. They seem to pick at it until it is all consumed. They are eating one sheet a day.

interesting. I've always loved the sohal, but I think I'm gonna go with a chevron, yellow, and scopas tang along with my already atlantic blue tang.

I've always liked the Atlantic Blue. That would be my next choice, if I was going to add another tang.(I'm not) I also have a small brisletooth tang that cleans the LR all day long.

I really like the Atlantic Blue as well. I want to add another nice fish to my tank...it is in contention. Im also choosing between a Purple tang and a few others. I love the color of the juvenile emperor too. Just so many choices, but Im in no rush.
