Anyone know how to catch a school of green chromes out of a large tank? When I first started my new tank I put in a dozen green chromes to start cycling the tank. Now I'm looking to remove them for I'm putting in my most favorite fish and I need the water space.

A while back when I had to get fish out of my tank I would put a little food in and use a clear bag to scoop them up. Worked like a charm.

Fish trap may work for you. Something like this.

+1 on the trap unless you want to rip apart your rock work. Marine Solutions loans them out with a deposit. If you are interested in selling any after you catch them please PM me.

I have my Owen fish trap. The thing is that it sets at the bottom of my tank. All my bigger fish will go in it. The first is my black banded angle. Green chromes won't even go close to it because of the bigger fish.
I might be wrong about getting rid of the green chromes. They don't bother anything. The reason is because I've got my favorite fish coming in soon, which is an Achilles tang. I think I've got too many fish in my tank and am looking to get rid of the command fish to make room for the hard to keep show fish.

Do you have anything laying aroung the house you could use to hold the trap near the surface? With some pvc pipe and elbows or some scrap accrylic you could make a little over the edge hanger, just get creative. It doesn't have to look pretty, it just has to work.
As for whether you want to actually get rid of them or not, that's a tough call. My original group of 6 lasted about a year and a half before the dissapearing chromis syndrome struck but in that time I kind of grew attached to them. I personally think they bring some nice color and activity to a tank and would like to get more but they tend to come in way too small (1/2" - 3/4")and my hawkfish would just gobble them up if I bought them. The one thing that always killed me though was when people would see the tank and the first thing they said was "look at those pretty little blue fish" and ignored the other more expensive "cool" fish

I always feed my fish in the same place and my green chromis aren't too smart. I dunk the little container holding the food into the tank to release the food and they happily swim right in to get the food. Doesn't work with all the fish but they don't seem to care. I feed out of a little 3" round tupperware container that I mix the food and garlic in. Not sure if that helps.
