Now I saw this at a local zoo and just looked amazing. The tank was only about 100 gallons.

I just wanted to know is this something that requires special equipment, conditions etc? how come we don't see this more in the hobby. I see this all the time on CRIBS in celebs houses, zoos etc. Any thoughts?

You would need a kreisel aquarium but they are really expensive, and they require a lot of care.

Yes, tanks for jellyfish are very specialized. The tank has to be set up so there won't be any bubbles to get trapped inside the jellyfish, and the current will carry the jellyfish in circles, without scraping them against anything. Usually they're built in a special configuration called a Kriesel tank. It's basically a cylinder, with special vents to create the right flow.

I'm most familiar with Jelliquarium (http://www.jelliquarium.com/) tanks, from a company called Midwater Systems. These run from $2,200 to well over $10,000, depending on the size, features, and stand design.

While double-checking that address I ran across a site I hadn't visited before, called Jellyfish Art (http://www.jellyfishart.com/). They're offering a desktop jellyfish system for only $250. Unfortunately, it looks just like a Biorb to me, with bubbles floating past the jellyfish, and nothing to provide good current. I'm kinda leery of this idea.

Another, totally different kind of jellyfish tank is set up for the upside-down jellyfish. These don't drift in the current, but sit at the bottom of a tank, with their tentacles up and the bell down. This kind of jellyfish tank doesn't have to be any special shape, but it does have to be set up with the upside-down jellyfish in mind. They're not well suited to a reef tank, for example.
