I got my 55g tank up and running with my live rock and sand in it. I have my protein skimmer and powerheads on the way, they will be here next week I went with a Reef Octopus BH-100F. So right now I have the HOB filter that came with the tank running with filters in it. I was planning on putting live rock rubble in the HOB filter, should I do this?? Also if not should I be putting charcoal in the filters or no?? I just don't know if the charcoal is good for salt tanks. During the cycle and when the tank is up and running what do you guys recommend??? Thanks for any help!

run carbon (bascially aqaurium charcoal), OR rubbble...all my tanks have run hobs with rubble (including my canisters)....

I have rubble in all my HOB's....I have rubble on one side and the filter pad on the other that has carbon...just make sure you rinse the carbon first and carbon only lasts 1 month to be effective.
