Zoanthids started off as my favorite coral. My hobby experience started off with two ap12's so they seemed like a perfect fit. "Easy" to care for, lower lighting and water quality requirements. Colors and morphs as far as you can imagine.
Now, 6 months in, I have to say I have moved on. I still love them and cherish my small zoa gardens, but my view of these corals has become a bit jaded. During months 2, 3 and 4, I collected about 70 different zoanthid morphs. Some were 200+ polyp colonies and some were single polyp frags. Then zoapox broke out and swept through all 3 tanks and hit each piece I had up to 3 times in some cases.
I spent probably $80 on Furan-2 and tried everything in the books from 20 minute dips over 3 days to shorter dips paired with iodine. I dosed vitamin c, cleaned and water changed my heart out and it seemed I was destined to lose everything after a 2 month battle with the plague.
It's been 2 weeks now with no new pox and my remaining pieces are recovering nicely. I probably lost $300 in frags and colonies and several months worth of growth on the survivors.
Anyways, without blabbing on here are some pics of my favorite surviving Zoa's!
