View Full Version : Loudness of MP10?

I just received and hooked up my MP10 on a 20g. On low setting it is reasonable, but as soon as i turn it up it sounds like a lot of vibration. Pulse sounds like a cell phone vibrating on top of tank. I read that it should quiet down after a day or so, but is there anything I should look at (bearings, bushings, sleeves?) other than just move it up down, right left? It seems like it is quietest when the two halves are not lined up 100%. If I line them up perfect it is LOUD. Did not expect this little MP10 to be my loudest piece of equipment. Tim? Anyone?

Some MP10's have proven to be a little louder than others. However, I have not seen an MP10 that does not quiet down within a month. There is a noticeable improvement within a few days.
Align it, let it run, then if its still annoying in a week and you don't want to wait longer, just contact us and we'll see what we can do to help you out.

I've been running mine for almost a month and for sure it will quiet down soon but make sure you properly alight the vortech I had a slight vibration to start with but with a little nugde of the motor up down it stopped

I don't get any vibration noise, but you defiantly hear the whining noise of the motor. On low you don't really hear it, but when it revs up it is pretty noticeable when the lighting fans are off. Despite the noise it is still the best pump on the market.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say that it's quietest when it is not lined up perfectly. Don't let the parallax of the glass and water interface fool you; wherever it is quietest, it is lined up the most accurately.
Every so often, my dry side moves slightly. I have the tank on a table in my living room, so it gets bumped by stuff pretty frequently. As a result, it gets louder and louder over time until I wiggle it back into place.
Try running the pump with just the dry side in your hand. That is how loud it should be (at the loudest... the tank will dampen the noise a bit). If the pump is louder than that when coupled to the wet side, it either isn't lined up properly or something else is wrong.
