What causes a clam to have a dull coloration? Mostly brown/purple? I just purchased this maxima today and I was wondering if it will blue up with time.

Were you looking down on the clam or straight at it through the glass. My Crocea looks brownish/purple until you look down on it from top. Then the blues pop.

Hm, I read somewhere that they will color up when under proper lighting. So I hope that's it.

I had a problem in my tank a while back that caused my clams to "brown out" Once i fixed the problem their colors slowly came back over a month or two. Some clams are just purple/brown and they'll never color up IME.

The drip on my calcium reactor stopped and the corals and clams started to look bad. When I checked the alk it was below 6 dkh, but I didn't lose any of my clams.
