After suffering some minor physical damage, my hammer's condition has gotten worse and worse. One of the "heads" has almost lost all of the tissue inside, and another one is starting to do the same thing very slowly. The inside of the head has also seemed to have some algae to be growing on it. Is there anything i can do to help it recover, and is it even possible for the heads to recover after losing so much tissue? Input would be very much appreciated, Thanks.

I have the exact same problem you are describing with my hammer. I have 4 heads on my hammer and one of them has completely receded inside it's branch and now a brown algae-like film is growing over the skeleton. The guy at my LFS said it was a bacteria that can, if left unchecked, spread to the other branches and kill the entire colony. He said he just takes an airline tube and syphons all the brown bacteria off, and the hammer should recover.
I tried this tonight and I managed to remove most of the brown film, not all though. I'm not so sure about how well this method really works in the long term. I'm still looking for answers on this, but I hope this helps.

Try some melafix marine maybe? I dosed some yesterday because my puffer has a skin infection and today my frogspawn was open for business so hardcore that I thought it was going to explode if it tried to expand anymore.
