Hi

I have just replaced my tubes with arcadia atinics "blue" 39w 34"....

"blue" no it is not, "purple" it is, now whilst this looks ok when the main MH lights are on there is a purple hue in the shadow. When the main lights are off its is more like a disco than "moon light", as they sell it.

So before I go back to Arcadia does this light spectrum have a benifit over a more "blue" spectrum? I might learn to live with it if there is a big benifit.

What you see and what the exact wavelength is of the light may be two different things. Check the specs of the arcadia. Water at deeper depths is blue to us. 420nm to 450nm range. My initial thought is that there is no real benefit.

Any others with any experience of these tubes? I meen I guess arcadia know they are purple and not blue, and I guess also this might be for a reason?

I can explain it actually, you're right, it looks purple. It's not a 460nm bulb or a 460/420 bulb. It's a 420nm Bulb which is far enough into the blue spectrum to appear blue/purple in color.

You can find links to the spectrum at their website: Arcadia 420nm bulbs (http://www.arcadia-uk.info/product.php?pid=13&mid=11&lan=en&sub=&id=4)
