What would be the best fish you can keep in a small school and also how many inside a 72 gallon tank? I've heard green chromis many times over, but I want some other options...preferably something smaller than their max size of 3 inches.

Chromis even if you add them in a large group seem to mysteriously shirnk... but I found out in a tank they become like highlander, only the strongest survive. They start to pick on each other.

Cardinalfish are the only fish in a tank that size that will stay in a group.
I personally think Threadfin Cardinals look amazing

Cardinalfish may stay together but they will not school. Over a longer time, they are likely to pair off rather than shoal.

Okay, so I guess the answer is most likely none. Thanks though for the replies. = )

you could do a group of trimma gobies but they would not school.
