Looking to add one to my reef. I was wondering if he would fight with my purple tang. My purple is large looking to get a small dejordini.

The two zebrasomas will spar but they are manageable if your tank is big enough--6' long.

I'd get a dejardini about the same size as the purple. He will need the size to acclimate.

My first thought is that it's not a good idea. My second thought .........nope ,still not a good idea.

My opinion is that sailfins are a lot less aggressive than purples and that in your situation mixing them would be risky. The only way I would do it is if your tank were huge and you found a sailfin that was substantially larger than the purple tang.

Having a 7' long tank, I have 2 sailfins along with a yellow and purple and they cohabitate nicely. I'm gonna add at least one more yellow and purple.

I had a red sea first, added a purple, same size and the purple chased the red for weeks. They finally settled down for the most part but the purple was boss. Then added a smaller black tang a couple months after and had to remove the purple. He was terrorizing the black. This was in a 6 foot 125.

I think it depends on the individual fish.
