What would it be to help us all be more successful aquarists? Let's brainstorm out here OK?

Protein skimmers work because the proteins bind to the air. However, my guess is that there has to be an inert substance that they bind to even more. I'd like to see a revolution in skimming based on this.

How about several "sub-bots" that come out at nite and gently put ALL settled detritus into suspension to be easily removed!

the super filter from "finding nemo" that has a laser that cleans the tank. i would never have to scrape the glass or scrub the rocks. no algae problems. :D

nvm. how about something that keeps all levels constant. like alk, cal, ph, mag. all you would have to do is at the chemicals do the reserve bucket. and i'm not talking about it just being a doser but all you have to do is program what you want the levels to be and it keeps them there and everytime the levels start to drop it would dose a few drops.

A filter sock that you don't have to powerwash to clean... or just disposable ones that come in a box like trash bags and then you just swap them out every other night. Hmmm.

+1!!!!!!! i wouldn't think these would be hard to make either.

Constant-use calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, nitrate, and phosphate probes that are accurate would be a nice start. Next up would be a setup that can automatically target feed your corals at programmed times (this is actually a lot more doable that the previous one). Finally, a genetically engineered superfish (or crab or snail) that eats all types of nuisance algae, aiptasia, and various coral parasites would be cool.

I created the 'zachtos storm drive' (google it). The idea was a closed loop pump to replace all the powerheads, but still give random flow. It does the job nicely, but I'm a marketting moron and only care about designing things.

Aside from that, "Scratch proof acrylic" would be awesome.

In reference to the filter socks, buy nylon filter socks, they rinse out easily. filterbags.com i think it was.

+1 that would be so awesome, if this comes out I will throw the decision makers glass tank out the door :hammer:

I want a forcefield that keeps the water in a cube shape without the use of glass or acrylic, so all you see is a cube of water in the room, it never needs to be scraped or cleaned in any way, wont scratch and doesnt distort what you are seeing in terms of color or shape. You can also reach straight into the water from the front to move things around and clean the rocks and sand easily. I think they manages to do it in star trek, and the movie the abyss. Maybe we should call Stephen Spielburg and ask how he did it.

A printer device that automatically senses water conditions and adds chemicals pertaining to parameters (Ca, Mg, etc) in specified amounts to desired levels. Complete with a scrubber system that pulls out unwanted chemicals (No3, Po4 etc) through reaction with a medium, similar to a chemical rebreather. Automated Water chemistry that requires 3 things 1. mechanical filtration for unwanted particles such as dust or suspended inorganic compounds that affect clarity. 2. Refilling cartridges with essential elements and changing scrubber filters. 3. Water changes, -since removing waste is no longer a concern the frequency of changes could be decreased dramatically only necessary for adding trace elements in minute levels. How much vanadium do corals need on a regular basis?

Something that could take out all of the stuff that my bacteria couldn't remove. It would replicate the sea foam that the waves create. I would be able to keep more fish and do less maintenance. I would call it a protein skimmer.

i had an idea a while back...

i thought about dropping some sort of chemical into the tank thats harmless to any coral. the corals would absorb it up and fish like angels that would normally pick at a nice zoo would suddenly be turned off by its horrible taste!!!

ya.... this seems to be realistic!!! com on someone smarter then me! lets get this done!!!

oh and a girlfriend pill that dosent let her ***** every time the tanks needs more attention then her!

how fornicated would you be if the power went out and your backup failed? hehe

My idea...
stretchy glass! Want a 33g cube? grab the corners of your 10g and pull to desired dimensions. Ready for a 300? Grab and pull. Oops, time to move...sell livestock and compress down to a tank to fit your needs.
I'll get the sham wow guy to push it when I finalize the invention details. Nothing sells a product like breath that smells of hooker spit.

After picking mu buttocks up off of the floor after rolling around laughing for an hour, I select this as the funniest (and funnest) thread that I have ever read here on RC!

I just rated it as excellent and I would like to vote for it to be thread of the day/month/year but I don't know how. Maybe it is a function of how many RCers rate it?

+1 on a device that will keep levels (specific gravity, calcium, magnesium, alkalimity, ph, etc.) exctly where you want it by just punching in the number that you want.

+1 on a turbine powered by falling water from the DT that produces energy for the tank.

How about solar panels that capture light spill over from the tank and converts it into usable power for the tank.

I think that some sort of culture and/or machine that recycles water from water changes and makes it usable again.
...that way we won't be throwing away valuable water all of the time.
