Are the API test kits for magnesium and calcium decent? Any feedback would be most appreciated.

I like the Salifert kits the best

After some problems with Salifert test kits I've started using some API kits and have been impressed with their accuracy. Well, they're at least as good as all the other aquarium test kits on the market. However, I don't think they have come out with a magnesium test kit yet.

My API calcium test reads a little on the high side. I have checked it against Salifert and SeaChem test kits that seemed to indicate ppm values that were close to each other. I will just compensate for this until the kit runs out.

since its so cheap i use API for a quick test, but lemotte for alkalinity and salifert or elios for calcium.

I use API for everything.I too get elevated levels for Ca, but that can easily be compensated.

Well that's funny, because my API and Salifert are close and the Seachem is about 70 ppm lower than both.

I have never seen an API magnesium kit. Do you have one ?

No i don't, I thought I remembered hearing there was a magnesium one, it seems I was mistaken.

Thats OK. With all the brands out there we can get confused.

I only recommend 2 hobby grade kits for magnesium from my testing.

Salifert and Elos.
