Looking for some input as to how many t5 bulbs to put over a 40g breeder tank (36 x 18 x 16), want to be able to keep pretty much anything, softies, clams, stonies, etc.....

Thanks Trevor

I run a 4 bulb setup over mine and everything grows well from softies to sps and clams. The beauty of the 40br is that it is shallow so it doesnt really need a lot of bulbs over it to work well.

Do you have to keep the fixture high off the tank for a good spread? Can you post some pics? I am setting up a 40g breeder as a shallow lagoon and was looking for some suggestions.

man, 4 bulbs with SLR's is plenty. you can still mix and match your color option in bulbs to see what you like. I have 4 working bulbs over a 120 and the tank is doing plenty fine with SPS mid way. Once i get my replacement ballast ill have 7 again, but im wondering if its worth the money now lol.

+1 to what others have said... four will definatly be enough, but having six will allow for more color options. :)

Geez, I'm a labrador puppy in a pack of race trained greyhounds!

I have a 36 inch Current USA PC and my 40 breeder is doing great! Coraline algae growing all over the live rock, spaghetti worms in the live sand and live rock, I must have 1 billion copepods. My glass has micro white dots crawling all over it. My polyps are growing at a steady and strong pace as is my leather coral. Course for my tank just wanting pretty softies and simple things and 2 clown fish, a PC works just fine for us and will for many years to come I believe.

i have a 4 bulb nova light over my 30in long 30g tank.. i think its more in the bulbs.. but if you can afford a 6 bulb light, get that one. and i bet you will have three switches which would mean there's three ballast. each ballast would control 2 bulbs. so you would have more flexibility.
