Stupid question.... Is it safe to use a mag float around the wet side assembly when cleaning the inside glass of the tank?

Do you mean cleaning around the wet side of the power head. I would think so. I do.

I do it next to my MP20 with no problems.

No problem, you just have to be careful not to knock the wetside out of alignment with the motor.
