Red Dragons Breath?

I have had this for years but i want to know a little bit more about it. even when my tank gets nuked and everything dies why is this the only survivor?

One guy i met a few years ago said it was a type of red kelp, I have always called it dragons breath and no one around here has even seen this before is it beneficial or a nuisance algae.

Try searching halymenia . Keep in mind that there are a number of species in that genus, take a look at a couple of different pictures.
