Crushed coral substrate. I guess I'll change it when I upgrade my stand.

My skimmer! That will be the christmas present for myself.

More dense substrate as well.

the size. I have had bigger tanks and have them still in dry storage but until I can settle down for a few years I will stick with my nano

I would change my crushed coral substrate as well. It came with the tank though:rolleye1: I think it would really brighten up my tank with the white sand...hopefully I can change it out sometime.

Size (want it about twice the width and about 3 inches shorter) and the stand. I hate the stand, but not much you can do to change that without disassembling and starting over, at which point I should just get the bigger tank, too.

i would like to trade my 8 korilas power heads for 4 vortex power heads.
i am thinking about it for christmas present for myself but it will be spendy.

Right now I wouldn't change a thing.

But I will say that back when I had my tank made I wanted to go 10ft instead of 8ft, because the finished duct work the tank would be under is just a touch over 10ft.
Unfortunately, going from 8ft. to 10ft. meant getting into custom sheets of acrylic, and this would have tripled or even quadrupled the cost.

I would go longer, wider and shorter. I hate reaching 30" down. I'd also go with a T5 fixture instead of my metal halide canopy. All the other things I've been unhappy with I've changed. Ditched the closed loop for Tunzes and Vortechs, replaced the external Deltec for the internal ATB. Went with a submersible Eheim return pump instead of the external Dart. Wish I could redesign my sump a bit, use black acrylic baffles instead of clear. Not a big deal though.

I would change the color of my backround. I painted it so changing is not an option but for my tastes....it's a tad too blue. I didn't want black though. Just a little darker blue. Here's a pic.

Definitely the size. It would be way bigger, and have good depth.I have a 65 thats only 18" deep and it really annoys me. I think a 180 would be nice. 4x3x2.

SIZE!! I'm only running a 30G. 120 or 250 or 300 would be really nice. How did you guys or gals convince your significant other to go big? Every time I mention an upgrade, my wife mysteriously goes deaf, yet she can hear me opening a chocolate bar from a mile away.

Its a toss up. Either I would make it 24x24 rather than 20x20. Or I would go with glass rather than acrylic. Right now I lean towards the glass vs. acrylic.

BIGGER! 8' in-wall with a nice fish room to take care of all the maintenance :) But until I live in a MUCH bigger house, my 55 is looking pretty dang nice these days and I DO love it!

Tyler, IMHO excellent changes, closed loops, external equipment and pumps are recipes for disaster. I wish more folks would realize that. Thanks!!!

A shorter sump, so i could get my swc 250 out to clean it..

But today I bought a short custom 60 so i think i will have another upcomming project :)

Bigger I guess... the new systems got all my hopes and dreams into it, other than it's not swimming pool size... lol...

Wish list is too long:
Replace my substrate with more of a sand rather than crushed coral sand.
Bigger tank
I love my new ATI lighting so not that ;-)
Definitely want to have a skimmer that is easier to tweak than my current Euroreef RS100.
Smaller pieces of rock so I don't have to put them so high in aquarium that fishes barely have room to swim in upper water column.

LOL... size, and a different overflow set up... I can't quite do laps in my tank yet.

I have old generation tunzes... bought them before any of the other options, but I'd go for 2x vortech rather than 2x 6000 + 7095 if I was buying today (similar cost).

I would say size. My 50gal is getting too small.

I would have bit the bullet and drilled my tank from the get go. Trying to figure out how to add a sump to an existing tank with virtually no room around the tank is a huge PITA.

It's yet-to-be-builtness. I've had three and half years without a tank and have to wait another 5 months. :(

Space! I would love to have more space under my tank.

My whole layout. I'm really wanting to go with a natural lagoon or reef table sort of look.

I think my next tank will have a side overflow With a rock pile against it and very sparse patches of smaller rocks on the rest. I'd like to catch the look of where the lagoon meets the reef. Have all my flow right by the rock wall and almost none on the other side. Small fish to balance the size and look more realistic

The size so I could keep a Idol! About 500g. would suit me fine.

Replace my closed loop with the newer, samller, better designed propeller type PH's on the market.

Oh wait, that's exactly what I'm doing during the upgrade... :D

Change 1 thing? your kidding right?LOL
If I had to choose 1 then probaly the subtrate from crushed coral to sand, and the size(would like 24" depth),and the lights,and...oh you said 1...lol
Seriously though im pretty happy with the custom built tank I have, would really have liked the extra depth though.

Size, I want a true 6ft cube. 6ftx6ftx6ft for the sole purpose of housing many anemones and many clown fish. some day it will happen and when it does you'll all be jealous.

Too many things to list.
More automation, black sand, black background, better flow, better designed sump...

I wish i had a 40 or 50 breeder rather than a 37 tall. I still love my tank though =)
