What pump would you recommend for a mixed reef 40B? I would like to get away with one pump but don't want to have to blast the tank to get the flow I need.

I will not be using long/short pulse mode on this tank to make waves. I would just like to used reefcrest or lagoon.

Tank Dimensions are 36"x18"x16"

Rock structure is going to look like this

I have the return on the left just for surface aggitation, and a glass-holes overflow on the far right side back wall.

This is for my mother and the budget is already kinda stretched for this tank, but I don't want her to have to have some ugly koralia pumps in her tank so I am going to get her an early x-mas gift before her tank is setup LOL.

Do you think I can get away with a single MP10? Or would I need two? Or should I just go with a single MP20?

Where would you place the pump to run in reefcrest/lagoon modes?

Thanks,
Josh

I've got a 40 breeder running as my frag tank and have an MP 20 on it. It does just fine.....unless you're looking at making the tanks all SPS....then you'll need an mp40.

i know this is directed for ecotech but i have a 40b mixed reef with 2 mp20s so i thought id give my thoughts.

1 mp10 should be good if you keep it at 100% or lagoon. reefcrest doesnt really move enough water, so you would want 2 if using reefcrest.

One MP20 would be best, two MP10's would be great as well. One MP10 may work in the beginning when the tank is new but overtime I think you'd want more.

Thanks I kinda had a feeling that would be the response I would get. Where would you put the MP20 for optimal flow as the single pump?

Definitely place it on the side.
