bulkead question

so ill be using a 3/4" bulkhead for my return. i plan on using flex vinyl tubing to run from the return pump to the 3/4" bulkhead that goes back into the tank.

i want a 90 degree hose barb fitting that goes to this bulkhead so the flex tubing will just slip right onto it.

so i guess my question is, should the barb fitting be male threaded or female threaded?
