Hi, we have a 34 gallon RSM. We checked the levels yesterday and the Nitrates were high. We did a 5 gallon water change and levels were still high. Did another water change today and they are still high. We checked the water in the jug prior to water change and the levels are perfect. Checked the levels a few hours after doing water change and the the levels are still high. Anyone have any ideas on what is going on and what we can do???

What test kits are you using.
Check the exporation dates.
Also, take some water into your LFS along with your test kit. Let them check your water with their test kit, then test it with your kit.
Every 4 to 6 week I do this with my water, Just to be sure my kits are still accurate.

i had problem when first starting out. did water changes like crazy & it never really helped. most on here will tell you to feed less, blow gunk from rocks before water changes, adjust flow so everything stays suspended & can be skimmed & filted out.
some use several forms of bacterial dosing to reduce nitrates also. vodka, sugar, also several products sold for nitrate reduction. only product i have tried that really worked was azn03. it worked for me, but gets mixed reviews from others. i just try & keep them as low as i can & if they are 20 or less i don`t worry too much about them. i dont have any sps & everything i do have seems ok. others should be able to help you out more. how high are you showing?
