I've had a couple of clowns now for about 1 1/2 years, recently the bigger one started hosting an australian elegance coral that i've had for about 6 months. Is this unusual? the elegance doesn't seem to mind.

Yikes! Is there any way to deter clowns from hosting an elegance or is it just hit or miss?

There is always a danger with LPS and clowns. A clown can host a nem pretty hard and is only pushing tissue against tissue. When they are pushing tissue into a hard skeleton they can cause damage. Watch that yoru clowns do not cause it any damage

So far the worst thing they've done is try to eat the elegance "poop".:hmm5: Funny yes, but still I lost some sleep over it!
My Maroon killed almost every coral I had in my tank. She never tried to go into the cabbage and the hairy mushrooms seemed to thrive with her in it.

try moving the coral. I had some clarks clowns that almost killed a bubble coral. moved it about 3 times. after the last move the fish got the hint and left it alone.

If it came down to it I would probably evict the clowns. My LFS would gladly take them and killing an elegance is akin to torching a 100 dollar bill. Tough decision, but you gotta do it before it's too late.
