I'm just looking for some opinions of whether it makes a big difference ran in a reactor vs a media bag. Thanks!

a reactor is much better. it allows all of the media to be used as water is forced thru all of media at once as opposed to bag where outside part of media is getting water flow

+1 a reactor is much more efficient

I've tested this with help of my Hanna.
Rowaphos in a bag does nothing at all.
Even in a Eheim canister you need to mess around with the bag after a week to keep it working.

The key is to have the water pushed through the media, whether in a bag, a cannister, or a tumbling reactor. :)

no doubt that the reactor would be more efficient, but if you are in a situation as i found mysely in a few weeks ago, with a bad cyano outbreak and a limited budget. i used phosguard in a media bag. 5 days later, no more algae growth. Depends on your situation, i guess, it worked for me

I am using a mini-jet 606 on a reactor similar in size to the two little fishies one...

O run about 120gph through my two little fishes reactors. So any small powerhead with that level will do, in my opinion.
