I'm moving up in life - the tank is full of fish, still slowly adding a few inverts but I'm into the maintance/enjoying stage and was wondering now about these electronic monitoring devices. I see temp, pH, Salinity and ORP probes out there - I understand those to some extent but I was wondering if someone has written up either a generic or brand specific writeup on the why's, why nots and what to expect.

I was kind of hoping for more extensive monitoring (nitrates, nitrites, Calcium, etc) but haven't seen anything like that. My temp, pH and Salinity seem pretty stable and I don't do any oxidating (yet) so I need a better reason to spend more on this.

Thanks,

Brad

PinPoint form American Marine has, most of what you are looking, that work well and not to pricey vs lab grade, for, pH, temp, Salinity, ORP, Nitrate and Calcium. There are currently none of Nitrite which would be a big waste of money anyway, when dealing with seawater.

Randy has tested the Calcium meter and I'm now playing with the Nitrate meter which so far works well for the ranges it has. All of their stuff seems to work well but is not perfect, which you do not need anyway in this hobby, i.e., you do not need a ~$400 - $2,000 Salinity meter or a $250- $1,000 pH meter or and $1,000 -$1500 Calcium ISE meter.
