It is similar to and possibly a bit complimentary to carbon at removing organics from the tank water. :)

FWIW I used it in my reef for a couple months but never got a color change. I then threw it in my FW lightly planted tank and it turned black in less than a week. Im not sure how effective it is in SW

i added some in my tank in addition to the seagel from seechem that i have and it really polished the water.

I used it on my 46g when I first started. I had great results, but it's not inexpensive. I have some on hand. But right now I'm trying carbon alongside pura complete. I read that using gfo is a better choice than pura complete.
I use it along with rox8 carbon.I believe it's somewhat helpful in managing the level of total organic carbon in the water.
