hey, i know baking soda can be used to raise your ph, but what is the ph of baking soda itself?

It depends on how you view it. When this is done in chemistry it is usually 1 mol = 8.3 pH, once the CO2 is equilibrated. Just like 1 mol of NaOH = pH 14 and 1 mol of HCl = pH 1. This will be different for seawater, which may also vary from one tank to the next.

Baking soda added to seawater will drop the pH a little bit, no matter what the starting pH of the seawater is (in the pH 7.5 to 9 range).

It is one of the oddities of chemistry that pH 8.2 baking soda in fresh water plus pH 8.2 seawater can end up below pH 8.2. :)
