I restarted the MB7 back to the starter dose after stopping for a little while. Today there seems to be diatoms built up on the sand?

Should I just drop the dose early and start the vodka early? I've been doing 4 the starter dose for about a week so I would normally still need to go another week.

The MB7 is adding nutrients to the water, so it might be the cause of the microbial bloom. It could be a coincidence, though. I haven't used that product, though. I'd likely just dose the vodka, but in any case, I'd watch the tank carefully for a few days.

Diatoms require the introduction of silicates. You may be seeing a small bloom of cyano, or some type of brown algae which should pass once you hit an equilibrium. It probably happened because you shifted the bacteria count.
