Talk to me people.....
Vinegar on Majano anemones or aiptasia?

My friend has a 90G. she has use Vinegar to kill aptasia. Of course the vinegar is in a syringe.

What will Vinegar do to the chimestry of the tank and will it hurt the tank.

Like anything how much is to much if it is safe.

IMHO bad idea it breaks down calcium. Great for removing coraline off an empty tank. But to kill Manjos in a tank with corals i would never. See what the proffesionals have to say

In small doses as in treatment for aptasia vinegar will not affect your water chemistry much if at all. Some even dose it along with vodka and sugar. Another remedy is to mix kalk into a paste (opposite effect to vinegar) and inject the aptasia. I've been lucky enough to find peppermint shrimps with enough of an appetite for the pests though so I've never tried either of the above.

Vinegar can be fine at appropriate doses. I dose 100 - 150 mL of vinegar to my tank system (total about 250 gallons) each day to drive bacterial growth.

It will drop pH, so watch that.

use joes juice. work great. just cut the tip of the syrange a little bigger and let them have it. then add a peppermint shrimp or two and they will clean up the smaller ones.

I have used vinegar, Joe's Juice, Aiptasia-X, Blue Life Aiptasia Control and Kalk paste to control aiptasia. My favortite is Aiptasia-X, since it has a very nice applicator syringe. I also like the way the aiptasia implode when you hit them with it and they don't seem to re-appear as much when using the Aiptasia-X. For all I know, the store bought products may just contain kalk paste. ;)

I agree with Randy in that you are not likely to cause any problems when using vinegar to kill aiptasia. Vinegar will kill the smaller ones, but does not work well on the larger ones IME.

I use aiptasia x, it kills them, then they grow right back smaller but in the same spot time after time no matter how great of injection in the mouth. I heard joes juice is better...Im thinking peppermint shrimp next.

I like boiling saltwater in a turkey baster. No chemistry worries and can apply as needed.

Got some Aiptasia on some beautiful live rocks bought from PA. 1 ml plain vinegar on a 5 ml syringe (good luck getting this from any pharmacy !) providing the shot when the pest is at peak, has killed it in a flash with no negative effects to my tank.

hope it helps,
Marian
