This is my first time having a sump, in the past I had all in one tanks so when it was time to dose I would dose according to the total volume of the display tank...so if it was a 28 gal tank I would dose on 28 gal even though there was always less water when you count the rocks, sand etc......so my question is this, I have a 75 gal display and a 40 gal sump, the sump is of course not full with 40 gal I would estimate maybe 25-30 gals??...do I use the same rule for the sump as I do for the display?...do I base by dosing on 75 + 40 or 75 + 25??

Thank you for your help.

Dosing should normally be figure by trial and error, but if you are using a calculator to figure an initial dose, then yes, account for all water volume. :)

so in my case I account for 75 display + 40 sump = 115 gals? correct?

As always Randy, thank you for all your help.

is that your total water volume you need to account for rock displacement, etc
