I recently switched to IO salt after receiving a bad batch of Coralife. I remember reading an article by Randy (i think) that spoke about a cheaper/reliable way to supplement ca/alk/mag to appropriate levels before adding to the tank. Does anyone have a link to that article?
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

IO now has better starting levels, so it may not be necessary:

What was the issue with the bad batch of Coralife ? I keep up on this stuff and would like to hear your story if you do not mind. :)

Wow, first I heard of that with Coralife. That's a shame.
Even the biggest companies burp every now and then. Just another reason to check every new bucket no matter what brand it is.
Thanks for sharing. :)

Instant Ocean seems to have low calcium and mag levels. I just boost them up before water change.

I think you'll be surprised at the newer batches of IO. More calcium and magnesium then in past years. :)

Billybeau1,
What is the new Cal & Mag levels in Instant Ocean ?
It has always been a great salt, Just better for a FLOWER then a REEF tank.
Are they trying to gear it more for Reef now ?

I do not believe that is their intention. Just to make it a little more versatile for all users.
They bumped the calcium up to around 400 ppm and added more magnesium, about 1350 ppm. Alk is about the same. ;)
They bumped up their Reef Crystals too. About 490 ppm calcium and a little over 1400 ppm for magnesium.

The link I gave has Billy's measured levels for many mixes, including the IO. :)
