I have been looking at Flame Angels and nearly every vendor site states that the minimum tank size is a 30 gallon with at least one stating 20 gallons. Is this true? Does anyone have long term success with a flame angel in a 30 gallon?

The only angel I'd consider for a 30 is a cherub angel. You could keep a flame in a 30 but its quality of life would be zilch.

Make sure to have places for it to hide as it will be very shy at first and then after the shyness goes away likes to swim in and out of holes and caves. Can definitely be semi-aggressive with smaller and non-aggressive fish. Also, I've been researching around and they seem to have a higher rate of health issues lately in the fish trade. Seems like fluke is pretty common lately. I just got one that looked really healthy at first but ended up with fluke, hlle, and ich. So, watch out for aggressiveness and health issues. QT can be your friend with this one. Otherwise they are a very beautiful and active fish.
