My tank have been up and running for 6 months and every thing seem to do well (Except the fish :(. Lets not talk about fish). Recently i am battling Cyanobacteria outbreak due to a massive fish die off and i have lost almost 80 good size fish.
Recently i sent my refract to my friend house to get it recalibrate and realized my Milwaukee refract reading 4ppt higher. So my tank now is at 31ppt instead of 35ppt. I need to bring my salinity up to 35ppt in 700ish gallons system. Couple friends telling me to put salt inside the filter sock to bring up the salinity but i find it a bit too harsh so i plan to do couple water change with high salinity and bring it up slowly in two weeks period. Since my system using fans to cool down the tank so evaporation is really high i decided to add more water than normal water level so when the water evap the salinity will eventually increase. I am not sure this is the right way to do but i think it is much better than dumb a bunch of salt into the filster socks and let it shock the system. Let me know what you think
Thanks
Steve
