What is the deal with the spacer. Why is it necessary for proper operation. My glass thickness is in between two spots. Is it better to go more space or less space if the setting is not quite right?

The spacers limit the axial force being applied to the bearings in the motor and wet side. What pump do you have? An MP20/MP40w or an MP10?

MP40. My glass is like 5/16 so I put it on the 3/8 setting. Didn't think it was huge deal, but I will put it where ever "best" is.

On the MP40/MP20 spacing system, one spacer setting tighter or looser doesn't really make a difference. You're good to go.
