My cleaner shrimp that I've had for 5 months now just died. He molted just before. And he has been molting regularly almost weekly. After he molted he didn't have his antenna I don't know how it all works with them. Any ideas why?

might be old age. unless you know how old it was when you got it then theres no telling.

copper will kill Inverts very quickly. Did u put anything in the tank that might have had contact with copper, be made with copper, or anything like that.

just a few suggestions to think about.

I find it impossible to keep any kind of shrimp for more than about a year. What causes shrimp to die, I have hermit crabs, sally lightfoot crab, snails!

I have had my mated pair of Coral Banded Shrimp for 5 years.

Dumb question what is molting? It is when a shrimp sheds it's entire outer shell. Since their "skeleton" is on the outside, they need to get rid of it to grow. Once they shed their shell, they are very soft and vunerable so they usually hide for a while. Lots of time, people see the molt and think the critter has died, only to see the critter reappear after the skin has harden.

Besides shrimps crabs also molt.
