I have what seems to be sponge growing over my star polyps. Is this normal and how do I get rid of it? Other sponges seem to be growing in many other places on my rock. Is it a bad thing to have them?

Sponges are generally beneficial but can overgrow some coral. Manual removal can help. I have had it on zoa colonies and just set them out and kept them moist for awhile. Air bubbles hurt a sponge's ability to filter and can kill them.

agree with above but would be beneficial to post a pic to be sure it is a sponge if you are not certain. Some fungus and bacteria can overgrow zoos and star polyps as well. Just an idea.
