Hello... I have a toadstool leather that will periodically 'bruise,' and I have no idea why... is it something that toadstools normally do, or is there a problem? It'll stay bruised-looking for a little while, then perk back up and look normal, but it happens probably 2 or 3 times a week. I tried posting pics a while back, but they weren't very good... got a better one now... anyone have any words of wisdom for me? Thanks in advance!http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r305/cleburne_aggie/coralandfence003.jpghttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r305/cleburne_aggie/coralandfence004.jpg

Leathers will often get darker in color when they retract their polyps or close up. Also don’t be alarmed if it closes up for a couple of days (or longer) and looks to have a clear, glassy look on the top. This is normal for most leathers and the coating will slough off typically in a couple of days and the coral will return to normal. Based on your pics I would venture to say that your Yellow Watchman is causing the coral to close up. Many times leathers will get used to gobies/blennies perching in them and will stay open although IME this typically doesn't happen until the leather gets larger. As long as the leather is still opening I wouldn’t be too concerned.

+ 1 to the above....also...they will shed a mucous (sp?) coating every so often where they close up for couple days. Then you'll see the slime coming off. After that it'll open back up again and return to normal. The fish can iritate them when they are small. I have a large leather that my pair of false percs host in.

Mine looks like that after my lawnmower blenny lounges in it.
