Im thinking i might just run my skimmer in place of my sump on my 55 cause its not really a big tank . And with just a skimmer/fuge it will save energy. Just wanted to hear what others think about this

always better to have more water. The more the better. Plus it gives you a place to put things like your skimmer.

True. it would save a some energy. I went sumpless for around 2 years and now that I have one, I'll never go without. My tank seems to stay alot more stable and all of my ugly crap is hidden.

If space is not an issue I'd keep it, especially on a smaller tank. How much would you save not having a return pump vs. what you'd gain from the added water volume?

I have used a HOB skimmer on a sump. Hung it on the side of the first chamber where the water drains in and it worked fine until I built a bigger one.

overflow surface skimming is a plus too
