I found out about these led strips which only costs $12/foot.

I put ONE 3' strip on top of the 90gal (36"x24"x24")tank I'm building and quite impressed (see pics)

I already have two 250 watts MH pendants ready for this tank but having second thoughts. Maybe should try DOY fixture or just stick these strips with built-in adhesives in my canopy. Or use these for actinics instead of VHO's.

I know there's no heat issues and less power consumption compared to MH's. But does anyone know what the disadvantages are? Price on these strips is a no brainer. How come I don't see those new and expensive LED light fixtures advertised anymore (i.e. marinedepot.com)
