Hey RC,

I currently have the AP24 gallon aquarium. I enjoy it alot, but i am thinking of downgrading to a smaller system since i will be moving off to college soon:hmm5: I am looking for a system to where the lighting is strong enough to host a good amount of different lps and sps, and yet small enough to where i can do small water changes (to save money) Now I realize that 24g is pretty small :wildone: but i was thinking around 10-20g or something along those lines.

Any advice out there would be greatly appreciated! show me your systems!!

hmm hard to say which is best cause there are so many out there and they all got so much better than when i first went into it. heres what i am thinking.

Elos, CADlights, Solana, RSM with HQI upgrade or custom.

if you have the space i would recommend the new 39G Professional series from CADlights if you are looking for the best. they got a new Bubble-Magus skimmer in there now.

How much are you looking to spend for all the items? (skimmer, lights, tank, etc.)

That 39g, unfortunately has a 12g sump. So the display area is only 27g. Which is why I decided against it. I'm going a different route. I already talked to Eddie multiple times.

Just too pricey, when I can get better parts, tank, etc. for less, if I hunt down all the parts (using time). If you just want to order a tank and set it up, go with the CADLights. If you have time, and are in no rush to order a tank, buy the components individually, and it will save you some money, but will take a lot longer to setup.

hey Ifisch, what do you mean? the tank is 39G and the external sump is 12G in the cabinet which makes the tank 51G total.

did you see the new Pro with the Bubble-Magus skimmer? its selling for the same price as the older one with the regular skimmer. it looks like a pretty sweet system. good price though if you compare having a 8mm seamless tank, HQI, a really good skimmer, fittings, pump, acrylic sump and a bunchof other equipment for $870 no?

i think if you bought everything separately it will be easily hitting $1300 or so.

I asked Eddie, and he said the tank is total 39g. Minus 12g sump, = 27g total display. I was interested in the new 2010 model. I can put together a system with similar or better components twice as good (depends which components) for about $200 less.

EDIT: It's still an awesome AIO. Just not my type.
EDIT2: It's one of the best AIO's for reef's. Not for any other type.

For example, the tank I will be getting, will be a FOWLR no corals, no need for MH. T5NO/HO or PC will do.

35g rimless, low-iron glass - $200 shipped.

Overflow - $60

10g sump - $20

Skimmer - have one at least comparable, if not better than the BM mini.

Return pump - unsure. I e-mailed Eddie to see who makes it, so I can get a compatible pump.

Lights - $85 (24" 72w PC fixture) Eddie will only subtract $150 off if I swapped the MH for T5NO.

Plumbing - $20

I'm looking at $385 + pump (probably another $100 for a quality unit)

He want's $810 shipped. I'm @ $385 shipped for everything. Skimmer - likely a wash - lights PC > T5NO. And the aquarium, IMO looks better.

EDIT: His system is 51g total. 39g for the tank, 12g for the sump. Good call. Mine would be 45g.

And the tank (24x18x18):

im looking to keep the price low... and the tank again, under 20g.. and preferably all-in-one system.

What's your price range? What don't you like about the fixture?

300ish. and the only thing i dont like is the legs, they look to big and bulky, and weak.

E-mail him and ask him what the price would be minus the light fixture, and go from there. Then get your own light. :)

You got to give people more than 30 minutes to reply.

Are you looking for an AIO or a tank, or a tank and the essential pieces to make it run?

Really, AIO's are pointless, unless you want a closed, clean setup with the stock lights covering the top.

Otherwise there's MANY additional options. We need a bit more information on what you want, don't want, plan to keep - coral wise, etc.

if you want to stay w/ a stock-looking AIO like your aquapod, check out www.nanotuners.com & www.nanocustoms.com for all kinds of lighting upgrades that you can keep anything you want

Why are you making such a small FOWLR? What fish are you keeping in it that are going to be interesting and non-reef sage i assume that won't be too large?

Right now, and in the near future, I won't have the time to commit to a SPS/LPS tank. It's much easier to do just WC's in a FOWLR.

I plan on a Coral Beauty and Toby puffer, etc.

If I want to do corals again, I'll likely setup my 14g again. Like I said, in the next 4 months or so, I just won't be able to give the attention a full blown tank like that deserves.

ifisch, question about the calights nano. can either the 12 or 22g have the ability to put a skimmer in the rear compartments?

Yes. It appears MOST nano skimmers will fit. You'd have to find out the exact dimensions from Eddie.

That is why I think we should encourage global warming and get the polar ice caps to melt. Once they do the level of the ocean will rise, we'll have more water in them, so the pollution levels will be lower.

Save the Earth. Promote CFC's!!!
