View Full Version : FS : last bits from our tank tear down

The ballasts below are in like-new condition. They don't have any water damage or the other problems you often see with used ballasts. These were kept separate from the tank, high and dry on a shelf.

$110 ea (2) IC 400W ballasts w/ PFO quick disconnect sockets

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58051-1/IC_400W.jpg

$80 (1) PFO 250W HQI ballast

$300 A complete O3 setup. It is a AquaZone Plus 200—200 mg/hr Ozonizer + Controller. With a Sweetwater (SL14) pump and air drier that we used to push the O3 along with 20' or so of Norprene tubing (the thick black tubing) w/ a check valve.
(retail on the pump is $200, retail on the Red Sea is $399, tubing is $2.50 per ft).

$75 44g Food Grade Brute make up reservoir w/ wheels, float switch/shut off (for RO/DI filling), small air pump + air stone and a heater. It is literally plug-n-play. Just hook up your RO-DI to the coupling on the inlet line and fill it up (if you have an auto-shut off installed on your RO-DI then the float switch in the Brute will make filling it even easier). Then add your salt and plug in the power strip/turn it on. The heater will bring the temp up to match your tank (adjust thermostat as needed) and the maxi-jet fed by the ait pump will circulate, mix and aerate the make-up water. Being on wheels, you can move it around to wherever you need it, even full.

$950 Set of 4 vortec mp40s + 2 battery backups, plus lots of extras. First here are the VTs (which include a brand new power supply). These have been modified to be controlled by the Aquasurf (+ an AC controller). They can also be run in "native" mode, and will work just as a stock driver would. Everything was working when I took them off the tank. I did have to replace one of the power supplies, as you can see from the unopened one in the picture.

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58036-1/Vortec001.jpg

Then the battery backups (which include a extra pair or power cables to conenct to the VT drivers, for a total of 4 cables)

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58040-1/Vortec003.jpg

Then lot of spare parts. Pictured are 2 motors, several wet end bases and drive shafts, 4 of the original non-wireless drivers (that still work just fine) and another brand new, unopened power supply. The power supply on the top of the picture and the wireless MP40 driver next to it are both broken, but included for parts, cases, etc, for any industrious soul. There is also another full wet end + 2 bases that are not in this picture as I found them after I took it, and didn't feel like laying them all out again just to include those spare parts.

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58038-1/Vortec002.jpg

I am not looking to part out the VTs at this time (since I wouldn't know how to split up the spare parts if I did :)).

For anyone buying the whole setup, I will also include the Neptune Systems Aquasurf for $50 more (it retails for $200).
Otherwise I am selling it separately for $120

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58043-1/Vortec004.jpg

$40 Magnavore 4ER, recently "refreshed"

Sorry, forgot to take a picture of this one. Just your average, everyday Magnavore 4ER.

$70 Reeffanatic doser pump (only a few months old, only used 2 mins per day, on a controller/timer. I used it to dose vodka).

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58028-1/Peristolic.jpg

I also have a pair of Interstate Workaholic Deep Cycle 8D paired with 750W inverters. The batteries measure 19.5" X 11" X 9.5"

$120 each combo (battery + inverter). Never used

http://tomandjue.com/Gallery/albums/InWall/BatteryBackup_005.jpg

$60 120g tru-vu (I believe). It measures 72X20X18. It is scratched up and is perfect for a sump, but not much else. It held water when I stored it, I can only assume that it still does. It will be delivered empty.

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/46672-1/110g_sump.JPG

$100 Deltec FR509. This one had the top fitting break off. I could fix it any of at least 3 ways, but wanted to leave it as is to allow the purchaser to decide how they wanted to do the repair. The fitting it the one that terminates just on the inside of the lid, so there is no other pipe/fitting to match up with. Again, I decided to leave it as-is since the minute I fix it a potential buyer would say "I wish you had fix it the XYZ way instead of the ABC way". It retails for $260

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58045-1/FR509_001.jpg

As you can see there is enough pipe/fitting that it can even be glued back into place w/o making any changes.

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58047-1/FR509_002.jpg

$20 Pair of GE Smart Water canisters/containers. various filters (carbon block, etc, even DI resin) can be put into these for filtering tank water through. You can't tell in the picture, but both have a mounting bracket included.

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58049-1/GE_SW.jpg

$130 Precision Marine Kalkreactor KR620 (retails for $270). I also just replaced the maxi-jet stirring motor.

http://www.marinedepot.com/Precision_Marine_Kalkreactor_KR620_Kalkwasser_Reactors-Precision_Marine-PM4111-FICRKR-vi.html

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58032-1/PM.jpg

$50 (3) buckets of Reef Crystals salt. One unopened, the other two have been opened and are each about half full. One of those two is in good condition (no clumping, etc), the other looks like it got moisture inside. I am not sure if it is useful any more or not. I am just throwing it in anyways.

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58034-1/Salt.jpg

All asking prices are OBO. No reasonable offer will be ignored.

I plan to be at Max's store tomorrow between 1:30 and 2 PM. I know that it is super short notice, but I can deliver anything listed at that time. Otherwise everything else will be pickup only in Oakley (94561). I will not be able to deliver anything outside of my trip to Max's tomorrow.

main display tank is already sold, although the buyer has postponed taking delivery until the end of November, but I have no reason to believe that he is going to bail. I will know more later this afternoon when I meet with him

Shoot me a PM about the MP40Ws.

Hey Arnold, long time no see. About the VTs, from that other poster only that post, no PM or any other contact yet. And these are the wireless drivers, I did see that they have a gen2 wireless, but from what I read I took it that it was just flashed with the new firmware. But I honestly haven't dove too deeply into it since I am getting out, not digging myself deeper in :)

Hi Tom,

What mods did you do to have them run on that controller? Can they be unmoded? Let me know if the other guy doesn't want them.

Arnold

Sparkss
10/29/2009, 07:00 PM
It was the "standard" mod that was being passed around. I could describe it here, but it is best to watch the utube or maybe I can find the post about it here on RC (let me know if you need me to search for it). As I mentioned, they can be run in "native" or "legacy" mode now, so no need to unmod :). I will let you know if the other person falls through.

It has been way over 24 hours (closer to 32 hrs) since Discus510 posted his interest, but I have yet to have a PM from him regarding contact, etc. So I will have to move on. Arnold, are you interested in all of it ? or just the VTs ? Shoot me a PM about what you would want. I will also state that I will give priority to someone who wants everything versus someone who just wanted one or two pieces. I think that I alluded to that earlier, but I wanted to be upfront about it now :). I will also be much more willing to bargain on the prices the more items someone wants to buy (RE: get a bulk discount for taking more of these items off of my hands :)).

I also have a 20# CO2 tank. I think it is mostly full, but don't know for sure (last check it still had pressure). This is the largest tank that still uses the same size fitting/connection as the smaller tanks and the aquarium class regulators. I keep saying I am going to take it back to Prax-Air to see if they will take it back, but still haven't gotten around to it. Just an FYI to those that don't deal with tanks of this size, when you get it filled, you just do a "swap", sort of like how they do w/ propane tanks these days. So you never want to shell out a ton of money for a nice shiny cylinder.. you will lose it hte next time you refill. I paid ~$120 for it from Prax, which if memory serves is the typical going rate. I will sell it for $75 (part becuase that $120 was for a full tank and part becuase I am not 100% sure they will give me anything for it... that is if I don't just go ahead and return it before someone takes it off of my hands :)).

Some info for South Bay residents that don't want to make the trek North : I am tentative to be in the Santa Clara area late next week, in the afternoon (sometime between noon and 2 PM). I can possibly meet at a nearby aquarium store to drop off anything, but I don't want to be in the area too late or I have to face rush hour traffic heading back North.

PFO 250W Sold

Vortecs Pending pickup/drop off

In the midst of getting the above items ready for pickup I came across 2 pairs of MH bulbs.

(2) XM 250W 10k $50 ea, both for $80
(2) Ushio 400W 14k $60 ea, both for $100

I don't believe that the XMs were ever fired, I remember purchasing them to try out and compare coverage against our 400W higher kelvin bulbs, but never got around to actually swapping them around to test. And the Ushios were fired for maybe 2 weeks (@ 6 hrs a day). I will add some pictures of the bulbs later on this evening. Saltwatersig can vouch for them all looking like brand new (but I am still going to post pictures :)).

Closer Gresh, but still a ways to go. *sigh*.

Here are the pictures of the MH bulbs I promised, along with a few new items

(2) XM 250W 10k $50 ea, both for $80
I am pretty sure that one XM was never fired, The second was fired for less than 4 hours, while I tested out PAR for comparisons.

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58061-1/XM.jpg

(2) Ushio 400W 14k $60 ea, both for $100
The Ushios were fired for maybe 2 weeks (@ 6 hrs a day) on an IC ballast

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58064-1/Ushio.jpg

$70 Mag-drive 24. I need to test it to make sure it still runs. I used it for 6 months or so before moving to an external return pump (Sequence) and since then it has apparently been stored in a box of old aquarium stuff, go figure.

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58067-1/Mag24.jpg

$10 Fish Trap

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58075-1/FishTrap.jpg

$15 Eheim feeder

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/58071-1/Feeder_001.jpg

And an update of a previously posted item. The Precision Marine Kalk Reactor. It was pretty grungy, but anyone who has dealt with kalk know that it was pretty much all surface grime and not really an indication of the unit. So I gave it a nice vinegar bath and cleaned it up. I also put a brand new maxi-jet on it, so now the only moving parts are 100% completely brand new. New price is $150 (which is still $120 off of retail).

more pictures and items as time permits. I will be at Neptune Thursday afternoon for anyone in the South Bay that wants something but doesn't want to make the trip North. I know I said it before, but I really don't see myself being down that way again after this week.

Tom,

If we can find a way to meet, I am gonna take the Eheim feeder. Not sure how much shipping on that thing, if you can ship.

Sparkss
11/06/2009, 12:08 PM
Roy, I will check on shipping, it is pretty light and shouldn't be much, but would need to find an adequate box to ship it in. If you wanted anything else to make the trip worthwhile, let me know, we can work something out :). I also have quite a bit that I haven't posted yet (meters, maxi-jets, some w/ the stream mods, some w/o, plumbing parts, controllers, timers and other electronics). Just PM me. Anyone who has stopped by will also attest that I give "bonuses" to those that make the trip.. but I don't see you driving out for just the feeder. Let me know.

Also, I neglected to mention how much me and my family enjoyed Neptune Aquatics yesterday. The owner and her awesome collection of livestock were worth the trip :D. If we were going to be setting up another tank her shop would be one of our first stops (plus she had a smaller tank for sale that would be perfect for easing back into the hobby, once we settled down *sigh* :))

Sergio,
Very generous offer. I know that Roy is going to take you up on your offer. I will have to hook you up with something for your troubles (not like I don't have plenty of spare aquarium stuff). How about some 6 X 12 frag bags ? I have a couple gross of them, sealed still. (is a gross 1000 or 100 ?)

Ed,
You name it I have it. Everythign from bulkheads to ball valve unions (mostly in the sched 80 gray, with threaded connections, I hate glue connections, especially for anything 1" or over, because I am (was) always redoing our plumbing design and wanted to be able to re-use these expensive fittings. I already took picutres of our 2" stuff and will be working on finishing sorting the rest and taking pictures later this weekend. I plan to jsut sell them in lots, sorted by size, IE: all 2", all 1.25" - 1.5", all 1" and all 1/2" - 3/4". Then I also have a bunch of speciality fittings, like eductors and mazzie injectors and what not. Plus a bunch of pipe and flex for all sizes.

Great to see you again too, and yes, she is very quick on her feet

Sill have the Ushios, Mixing container (Brute 44 + extras), PM Kalk reactor, Deltec FR509, 1 4002 IC ballast, Battery backup setups (1 is enough to run most return pumps for hours - a smaller setup ran our Super Dart, so I know it is more than possible), Ozone setup and fish traps are still available.

Sparkss
11/16/2009, 08:41 PM
Going to add a few items to this thread, but may end up terminating it and starting a new one, so that this new stuff doesn't get lost :)

Here is a Super Dart w/ an AO Smith motor and a custom manifold. The manifold consists of (2) 3/4" quick connects, (1) 1" quick connect and (1) 1.5" quick connect. I used to run the main return, calcium reactor and skimmer wet neck off of it (w/ a spare connection for a media reactor that I would connect from time to time).

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/59123-1/SuperDart_Manifold.jpg

$350 for everything, or $175 for just the Super Dart pump.

I get asked about the manifold design all of the time. It is actually pretty simple. The gate valve allows for fine tuning of the flow for that outlet while the ball valve allows each outlet to be turned on or off (w/o changing whatever "tuning" was done w/ the gate valve). All fittings are threaded (nothing outside of the main trunk is glued, and can be changed as needed). The quick connects allow for changing fittings very easily. Either buy extra males (I believe I got them from McMasters) or use the exiting by shutting off the outlet, pulling the quick conenct out, changing the fitting threaded into the quick connect, reattatch and re-enable the outlet (open back up the ball valve). Both the 3/4" and 1" connects use 1" ball and gate valves, but the 3/4" jsut have an RE down to the 3/4" quick connect (so you can go up in size by just purchasing a 1" quick connect set if you really wanted). There are also (2) heavy duty tru-union ball valves placed to allow the pump itself to be removed for servicing, cleaning, or replacement, w/o needing to drain the sump or tank (IE: drain the tank down below the returns). I will also include the bulkhead fitting on the inlet side for connecting to a sump. I used spa-flex between the 90 and the bulkhead to minimize vibrations from the pump making the sump "noisy". I ran this setup for over a year w/o any problems.

I also have some additional fittings. Since I haven't priced them out individually I will just state $150 for all of them. If they don't sell then I will work up some individual prices.

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/59121-1/Adv_Fittings.jpg

Next are a bunch of maxi-jets

http://www.tomandjue.com/gallery/d/59117-1/MaxiJets.jpg

ranging in size from 200 up to 900, and I think one is a 1200, but I can't make it out. Several of them look like they never saw tank water. There are also 3 of the algae-free mangentic mounts plus I have a box of maxi-jet "accessories" from several maxis (the stuff that comes in the packages in a box w/ a new maxi-jet) $60 for all of them (the magnet sets alone are worth that)

Sparkss

yes it is LED, and still avail. PM replied to. I remember reading that it's mimicing of the Lunar cycle helped prompt tank inhabitants to spawn more regularly. But then again the lunar cycle is more about subtle gravitational changes then light intensity (or so I would believe). You can always just leave it switched in the on position (instead of auto) and use your own timer to turn it on/off :)

if I don't sell them as a set I will price them out separately. I am going to give it some time first, but not too much :)
