View Full Version : How many fish in 120 REEF.

Hey everyone happy halloween. i was just curious on how many fish i can put in a reef tank? i have 120 gallon tank with 6 fish in it already but they could get lost from time to time, whats a safe # to be at in a 120? again i rather all reef but would like some more fishes. thank:fish1: you.

It all depends on the size of fishes and behaviour. If you get a good mix of fish that swim in different places/areas of the tank you can have more then if you only bought fish that used the free space/open water in your tank.

If you were looking for an average number though, its hard to say. Just go slow and see how your tank reacts to each new addition.

like ruskin said, it all depends on the type of fish you have. You can have a couple dozen wrasse or a half dozen tangs

It depends on your skimmer quality and water change regiment too

in my 200 reef i have over 20 fish and 9 are med to large tangs i know its a large bio load but if your skimmer can keep up also i do a 30 gal water change once a mounth so if your asking me i would say its how much work and time you spend on taking car of your tank and i thav had them for over 8 munths with ou loosing any just need lots of rock for hiding
